Advanced course well under way see details below |
No morse training courses available at present. Details will be put here when one is organised. Morse
A sufficient number of the successful candidates expressed an interest in learning to operate in morse code (referred to as c.w. by radio amateurs) and this was arranged..
It was in the capable hands of Geoff Pritchard G4ZGP and commenced in February 2008 The course was successful and thanks go to Geoff for his work..
Non radio amateurs believe that cw is an outdated mode of transmission. Amateurs however often find that morse can penetrate noise and interference from powerful stations and so can be a worthwhile method of "getting through" while useing small amounts of power

The Intermediate course which began in late September, with a practical project based on the US DCkits 40m FET oscillator ended on 15 January with the exam taken on 22 January. Twelve students were successful.
M3TLY Ian from Whitby M3UNY Luke (Ian’s son) M3MEO Daniel M3NVL Stuart M3XYD Jim M3SWQ Alan M3SXX Sam (Alan’s son) M3YAE Gary M3SQZ Nigel M3XLS Leslie M3ZMS Matthew M3JJB John The practical project, the DCkits oscillator proved problematical, the pcb being rather small for this level of ability, and in several cases during fault finding parts of the copper track lifted. However all of the students completed the project satisfactorily, with the oscillators tuning over some 50kHz of the 40metre band. The completed project included a power indicator, RIT switch and 9v battery, the whole housed in a plastic project box. |
An advanced course is currently running with eight students, who will take the examimation in April 1st. Some time later a Foundation course will be run. applications for places are welcome
