ADVANCE LICENCE COURSE INFORMATION
The Advanced course began on Tuesday 30 September at 1900 hrs (7 pm) at Crossgates Community Centre. The course is now well under way and details of how the candidates faired in the end examination will be shown here at a later date. Anyone who has an interest in becoming a Radio Amateur are welcome to call either of the two contacts shown below who will be only too pleased to answer your questions. Christmas Social 2007 Information
At our Chrismas 2007 Social on Monday 17th. Dec at 7-30 p.m., we are expecting up to 50 visitors. As parking at the Cricket Club will be tight, some members might like to consider parking on nearby roads thereby leaving some room for people who may not be familiar with the area.It would also be appreciated if a few members could be at the gates to help guests in cars to find a place.

Edison Swan Quiz The Annual quiz for this trophy was held on Monday 19 November at the Club, Each year the quiz is usually set by the previous years winner. Last year howver Bob G4YKO woh the quiz but due to illness Mick G8WYB stepped in. This years winner was Malcolm M0MXX who will no doubt be setting next years Quiz

John Hall M0JXX John, a former member of Scarborough Amateur Radio Society, originally received his radio training with the Durham Light Infantry regiment, serving in Hong Kong, Borneo, Singapore and in Germany. His experience as a regimental signaller, particularly erecting aerials in difficult circumstances proved invaluable for Field Days, and for providing the both aerial and an experienced contact for Foundation students during the Scarborough courses. |

A WELCOME ADDITION TO OUR M3 MEMBERSHIPOn Monday the 15th Oct Stuart, M3NUN was elected to membership of the club. We now have Ian M3TLY, Luke M3UNY, Jim M3XYD, Les M3XLS, Nigel M3SQL, Matthew M3ZMZ, Gary M3YAE and Stuart M3NUN. Most of these members came through the Club's Training Course. Their presence is highly valued in the long term development of SARS. |
Sideband Field Day Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd September 2007

The rules of this event require an HF station to be operated portable, ( a location removed from the club location), with one aerial only and power from a generator or battery. The site chosen is a field to the rear of the chairman's house in Ebberston off the A170 road, the contest starting at 2pm Saturday and ending 24hours later. |
| QSOs (contacts) were made on 3.5, 7, 14 and 21MHz. (80,40, 20 and 15 metre amateur bands). Although checked several times no activity was heard on 28MHz (10 metres) and only two contacts were made on 15 metres. |

A total of 506 QSOs were made with a score of 2,012. When multiplied by the number of countries worked the claimed score was 114,684 points. The youngest operator was Cameron Young, 12years old, working with his father and the oldest probably Peter Robson in the team of eight | ![]() |
| The site was organised and masts erected on Friday evening, taking about two and a half hours. Everything was dismantled and put away in a little over an hour, just prior to the heavy rain. |
